Fast track registration pathway opens for Psychiatrists & Anaesthetists
The Medical Board of Australia has expanded the expedited specialist pathway to include eligible internationally qualified Psychiatrists and Anaesthetists.
From 23rd December 2024, Specialist International Medical Graduates (SIMGs) with the following qualifications are eligible to apply for the expedited pathway:
Anaesthesia:
- Fellowship of the College of Anaesthesiologists of Ireland (CAI) from 2012, together with a Certificate of Satisfactory Completion of Specialist Training (CSCST)
- Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (RCoA) from 2007 and a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT)
Psychiatry:
- Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) from 2007 and a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT)

What’s next for the expedited specialist pathway?
Eligible internationally qualified Specialist Obstetricians and Gynaecologists will be added to the expedited registration pathway in early 2025. General medicine, general paediatrics and diagnostic radiology will be the next priorities for the expedited specialist pathway in 2025.
